Mindfulness For Daily Life

Midlands Mental Health Clinic offers an extensive amount of information, training, tips and workshops on Mindfulness. Change is possible – let us empower you.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of living in the now. You use it by learning healthy, positive actions and practices to keep you present in your day-to-day life.

Mindfulness teaches us all about our everyday triggers and issues. You can learn a lot about yourself by becoming aware of your physical body and its reactions to everything in the world around you.

What Issues Can Mindfulness Help With?

Mindfulness is a versatile and incredibly useful tool to have in your mental health arsenal. It can help with everything from everyday work stress to serious bouts of anxiety.

A list of issues that can be helped with this practice includes:

  • Stress
  • Obsessive thinking or “over-thinking”
  • Anxiety (general, social, acute)
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

It is a broad and versatile tool that can be implemented in almost anyone’s life.

How Does Mindfulness Work?

Mindfulness works by targeting the five senses – sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell – and using them to ground yourself during every day situations.  The practice contains many exercises, physical and mental, used to keep you in the here and now when anxiety or worry attacks your brain.

Things like controlling our breathing and listening intently to the world around us can be very beneficial for tackling bouts of stress.

What are the benefits of Mindfulness?

Mindful living has an incredible wealth of benefits for mental health. Being able to understand your own stress on a physical level is very important and can affect many aspects of your life.

The benefits of this practice can include:

  • Increased awareness of the world around you
  • Clarity in your thoughts and actions
  • Lowered anxiety
  • Feeling connected to life and the world
  • Better physical health (lowered heart rate, blood pressure, controlled breathing)
  • Improved brain function
  • Increased success in school, work, college etc.
  • Healthier thought patterns in times of stress
