Bereavement Counselling

Midlands Mental Health Clinic Offer Bereavement Counselling for Overcoming Loss and Grief. We Cater to Clients in Mullingar, Portlaoise and Tullamore. Change is Possible – Let Us Empower You.

Loss and grief are an inevitable and essential part of the human experience. All of us will encounter a personal loss in our lifetimes, and while these feelings are natural, sometimes they can become overwhelming.

A depression can set in, causing the person to feel stuck in a state of grieving and unable to move on. This happens particularly if the loss was sudden, unexpected or especially traumatic.

How Loss and Grief Can Affect Your Life

Bereavement is the reaction to the loss of someone or something that really matters both personally and emotionally. While it is a part of life and can’t be avoided, the loss of a loved one can wreak havoc in a person’s life.

Sometimes people will have a delayed grief reaction where grief can often be repressed. This repression can seriously affect people later on in life, causing the same feelings of loss and despair they felt at the time. Bereavement counselling helps people overcome this.

What Are The Triggers For Loss and Grief?

Loss and grief are not limited to the deaths of loved ones, either. Other situations in which people experience grief include:

  • The loss of a pet
  • The loss of a job
  • Moving home/eviction from a home
  • Serious illness e.g. cancer
  • Infertility
  • Retirement

What Are The Symptoms of Loss and Grief?

Grief affects you physically too, and can result in side effects including:

  • Fatigue and constant tiredness
  • Unexplained aches and pains
  • Panic attacks/increased anxiety
  • Tight chest or difficulty breathing
  • Loss of or heavily increased appetite
  • Difficulty concentrating
